Fiji is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean comprised of 332 islands and 500 islets. It’s located 2,000 km northeast of New Zealand’s North Island, and its closest neighbours are Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

The ferocity of the cannibal lifestyle deterred European sailors from going near Fijian waters, giving Fiji the name Cannibal Isles. Fijians today regard those times as ‘na gauna ni tevoro’ (time of the devil).

Fiji’s main attractions to tourists are primarily white sandy beaches and aesthetically pleasing islands with all-year-round tropical weather. It is a budget island destination that is especially popular with honeymooners.

Although residents are liable to tax on taxable income accruing in or derived from Fiji or elsewhere, non-residents are only taxed on their Fijian income. There are no local taxes on income in Fiji.
